Cannabis Pickup Curbside: How It Works

Curbside cannabis pickup is an order-ahead service. You place an order online or by phone. You collect the order outside the store. A staff member checks your ID and payment. Rules differ by state and by store.

How curbside pickup works

1. Place an order. Use the store menu or call. Confirm the item, quantity, and pickup window.
2. Get a confirmation. The store sends an order number by text or email.
3. Arrive at the pickup spot. Park in the marked space. Call or text the number on the sign.
4. Show ID. Staff checks a government photo ID. Adult-use sales require age 21 in states with adult-use programs. Medical sales can require a state medical card.
5. Pay. Some stores take debit cards. Some take cash only. Some require exact cash.
6. Take the sealed bag. Keep the bag sealed. Follow state rules for transport.

What to bring

• A government-issued photo ID.
• The order number or confirmation.
• A payment method the store accepts.
• A medical card if the order is medical.
• Cash if the store does not take cards.

State and store rules

State cannabis regulators set retail rules. A store can offer curbside pickup only if the state allows it. License type matters. A medical dispensary can have curbside pickup while adult-use stores do not. Federal law lists cannabis as a Schedule I drug. State-licensed stores operate under state law.

Purchase limits and age checks

Purchase limits match in-store limits. The limit depends on state law and product type. A store can set a lower order cap for curbside. Ask the store for the cap before you order.

Adult-use pickup requires age 21 in states with adult-use programs. Medical pickup can be age 18 with a valid medical card in some states. The store checks ID at pickup. The store can refuse the sale if the ID is expired or does not match the order name.

Payment and pickup window

Payment rules vary. Some stores take debit cards. Some take cash only. Some do not take credit cards. Curbside orders can have a pickup window. If you arrive late, the store can cancel the order. Call the store if you are delayed.

Common mistakes

• Ordering at a store that does not offer curbside.
• Arriving without ID.
• Arriving with a payment method the store does not accept.
• Opening the bag in the pickup area.
• Parking in a space for another business.

If curbside pickup is not available

Ask about in-store pickup. Ask about delivery if state law allows it. Delivery rules differ by state and city. Some areas ban delivery. Some stores do not deliver. Confirm the option before you pay.
