THC-P (tetrahydrocannabiphorol) is a phytocannabinoid that shows up naturally in cannabis at trace levels. Its calling card is a longer side chain: seven carbon atoms where delta-9 THC has five. In receptor binding assays, that extra bulk helped THC-P attach to the CB1 receptor much more tightly than delta-9 THC does. That is the entire basis for the "way stronger than THC" reputation. Human trials do not exist. Everything about how it feels in people comes from animal work, receptor data, and a pile of customer reports, not from controlled studies.

What THC-P actually is
Plants make THC-P in tiny amounts, so almost nothing on a shelf is extracted straight from flower. Commercial THC-P usually starts as CBD or another cannabinoid and goes through a semi-synthetic conversion, the same route delta-8 THC takes. That matters because the finished product depends entirely on the lab doing the work. Clean conversion with a full purification step looks one way on a COA. Sloppy conversion with leftover reagents and unidentified peaks looks another.

Why it feels stronger
The published explanation is binding affinity. A 2019 paper in Scientific Reports reported that THC-P bound the CB1 receptor with an affinity roughly 33 times higher than delta-9 THC in their assay. Since CB1 is the receptor behind the classic high, tighter binding should mean more effect per milligram. In mouse tests from the same work, THC-P produced cannabimimetic effects at lower doses than THC.

What that does not tell you is the dose curve in humans, how fast tolerance builds, or how it interacts with anything else you take. So treat "stronger" as a reasonable expectation, not a measured fact.
Delta-8 THC-P and delta-9 THC-P
Labels are sloppy here. Some products are delta-9 THC-P, some are delta-8 THC-P, and many are THC-P blended with delta-8 THC, HHC, or plain hemp distillate. The blend is usually why one gummy at 5 mg feels mellow and another at 5 mg does not. Read the cannabinoid breakdown, not the front of the package.
THC-P vs delta-8 and delta-9
- Delta-9 THC: the benchmark, five-carbon chain, effects most people already understand.
- Delta-8 THC: usually described as milder and more clear-headed, roughly half to two thirds the subjective intensity for most users.
- THC-P: same five-carbon backbone chemistry but a full seven-carbon chain, reported as heavier, longer lasting, and easier to overshoot.
- THC-O and HHC: different molecules with different reputations. THC-O is often called more psychedelic, HHC on the milder side.
Dosing: start smaller than you think
I see overshoots constantly with THC-P. Two or three milligrams is a real starting point for a new user, not 10. Vaping hits in minutes, so you can add. Edibles take an hour or more and last for hours, so you cannot subtract. If you are switching from delta-8, do not carry your old dose across. Body weight, tolerance, liver metabolism, and the product's actual THC-P content all shift the result.
Is THC-P legal?
It sits in a gray zone. The 2018 Farm Bill legalized hemp and hemp derivatives containing no more than 0.3% delta-9 THC by dry weight, and that wording has been read to cover a lot of semi-synthetic cannabinoids. The DEA still lists tetrahydrocannabinols as Schedule I. Several states have passed their own bans on THC-P specifically. Check your state law before ordering, and do not assume a product is fine because a website will ship it.
What a label should tell you
- A batch-specific COA from an ISO-certified lab, not a generic PDF.
- Total THC-P content in milligrams, not just "proprietary blend."
- Delta-9 THC percentage under the legal threshold.
- A residual solvent and pesticide panel, plus heavy metals.
- A harvest or production date, since cannabinoids degrade.
Side effects and risks
The usual suspects apply: dry mouth, red eyes, racing heart at high doses, anxiety, impaired coordination, and short-term memory fog. THC-P's longer duration means a bad reaction can stretch on for hours. Do not drive on it. Skip it if you are pregnant, under 21, or on medication that interacts with cannabis. There is no long-term safety data on THC-P at all, which is worth saying plainly.
Storing it
Keep vapes upright at room temperature, away from sun and heat. Edibles go in a cool, dark cabinet, sealed, and out of reach of kids and pets. THC-P distillate oxidizes and darkens over time, so buy amounts you will actually finish within a few months.
