What Happens if Airport Security Finds Weed?

If you're traveling with cannabis and airport security finds it, the consequences can be severe. The legal status of marijuana varies by state and country, but in most places, it remains illegal under federal law. Here's what you need to know:

Can You Fly With Medical Marijuana Across State Lines?

• Legal Consequences: Depending on the amount and your previous history, you could face fines, confiscation of the cannabis, and even arrest.
• Travel Restrictions: Your travel itinerary may be affected, as you might be denied boarding or be questioned extensively.
• Reporting: Airports are required to report suspicious activities to law enforcement, so be aware that any cannabis found will be thoroughly investigated.

What to Do if You're Found with Weed

• Stay Calm: Avoid acting aggressively or making any sudden movements, which could escalate the situation.
• Cooperate: Be polite and comply with the security officer's instructions.
• Contact Legal Representation: If you're questioned or detained, request to speak with a lawyer immediately.

Preventative Measures

• Travel Within Legal States: If possible, only travel with cannabis if you're in a state where it's legal to possess it.
• Stay Informed: Know the laws and regulations regarding cannabis in both your departure and destination cities.
• Keep Cannabis in Secure Places: Store cannabis out of sight and avoid traveling with large amounts.
