Granddaddy Purple, usually shortened to GDP and sometimes written as Granddaddy Purp, is an indica-dominant hybrid with a heavy, sweet, slow reputation. Breeder Ken Estes put the strain together in Northern California around 2003 by crossing Purple Urkle with Big Bud. Urkle supplies the grape candy aroma and the deep purple color. Big Bud supplies size and resin. THC on tested flower tends to land between 17 and 23 percent, while CBD is usually under 1 percent, so the experience is THC-driven rather than balanced.
