Most map listings pull hours from a business profile the store edits, or from an aggregator that copies that profile. Three inputs drive the badge: the posted open time, the posted close time, and your device clock. None of the three confirms a person is behind the register.

Four cases where the badge is wrong

• Holiday hours. A store closes at 6 p.m. on a holiday and the profile still lists 10 p.m.
• One-off closures. A staffing gap, a power cut, or an inventory count shuts the counter with no profile update.
• Time zones. A phone set to another zone shows the wrong status for stores near a state line.
• Close times past midnight. A store open to 1 a.m. is listed as closing at 1 a.m. on the wrong day, so the badge flips a day ahead.

How to confirm a store is open

1. Open the store's own site and read the hours there. Compare them to the map.
2. Call the number on the listing. A person answers during business hours.
3. Check the store's social feed for a same-day post about a closure or a late open.
4. Check the state license record. That confirms the store is licensed, not that it is open today.

What the filter does not show

The badge says nothing about wait time, online order cutoff, or the last sale of the day. Many stores stop online orders 30 to 60 minutes before close. Some stop adult-use sales before medical sales end. Ask for the cutoff when you call.
