What a smell proof container does

A smell proof container blocks odor molecules from leaving. Terpenes such as myrcene, limonene, and pinene carry most of the smell of cannabis flower. These molecules evaporate at room temperature and pass through paper, cardboard, and thin plastic film. A container stops them with two parts: a barrier layer and a seal.

5. If you detect flower, the seal failed. Repeat the test after 7 days.

Sizes and storage

One eighth of an ounce, or 3.5 grams, fits in a 4-ounce jar. One ounce, or 28 grams, fits in a 16-ounce jar. Keep containers at 60F to 70F. Heat raises vapor pressure inside the jar and pushes odor past the gasket. Humidity packs hold flower near 58% to 62% relative humidity.

Child-resistant rules

Packaging for products that contain THC must meet child-resistant standards in many states. CPSC rules under 16 CFR 1700 define the test method. ASTM D3475 lists package types. A smell proof container does not meet child-resistant standards on its own.
