What crumble is

Crumble is a cannabis concentrate made with a hydrocarbon solvent, most often butane or a butane-propane blend. The extractor purges the solvent under vacuum and mild heat. The purge strips waxes and some terpenes. What remains is a dry, opaque solid that breaks into chunks.

Texture runs from chalky to honeycomb. It does not hold together like budder and does not pull like shatter.

Why the numbers run high

Crumble is mostly cannabinoids by mass. Plant material, water, fiber, and chlorophyll are gone. The THC percentage counts only the compounds left in the jar.

THCA and THC

Reading a potency label

Licensed stores in states with testing rules must print cannabinoid content per batch. Check three items: total THC, batch date, and lab name. Potency shifts batch to batch. Colorado rules allow a margin of error between the printed label and a retest, so a 78% jar can differ from the number on the sticker.

Storage and potency loss

Heat, light, and air degrade THC over time. THCA can convert to CBN, which is less intoxicating. Keep crumble in a sealed glass jar in a cool, dark place. A dried-out batch may crumble further or turn to sugar.

What potency numbers do not tell you

Percent THC says nothing about terpene profile, effect, or how the plant was grown. Two samples at 78% THC can feel different. High-THC concentrates also carry higher risk of anxiety, fast tolerance, and emergency department visits for heavy users.
