1. Trichomes on the calyxes: mostly cloudy with a few amber. All clear means wait.
2. Pistils receding and darkening, calyxes swollen.
3. Weather: cut before a multi-day rain or a hard frost, not after.
4. Skip watering the day before so the plant isn't loaded with moisture.
